Project Title Adaptation- Location New York/ NY Union Non-Union Agency Steven LaMorte Date Posted 05/14/2008 Description This is a NON PAY NYU student film, but copy/credit, food, and transportation will be provided. The Tragical History of Doctor Faustsus This psychological thriller is an adaptation of the play by Christopher Marlowe which tells the story of Dr. Faustus; a man who sells his soul to the devil for power and infinite knowledge, only to find he has been deceived and that is power is short lived. Taking place over the course of one night, the story centers on Faustus’ interactions with Satan’s emissary Mephistopheles, and his emotional/physical decay leading up to his final hours before Satan will claim his soul. He is tormented throughout the night with visions of spirits, as though in a nightmare that will not end. The film will be shot at a camp on Staten Island in a cabin, as well as a few exteriors at Snug Harbor cultural center. The schedule will involve shooting from May 21- 23 (two days, and one that will start late afternoon and last into the night). Auditions are Friday, May 16 from 2- 5pm. Characters Dr. Faustus- Arrogant and headstrong, Faustus is a scholarly man who wants to learn all there is to know about the world. His desire for power causes him to be impulsive, which makes him fall deeper and deeper in Mephistopheles’ trap. Mephistopheles- the servant of Satan, Mephistopheles is the antagonist who convinces Faustus to sell his soul to the devil. He/she is cunning and clever, intentionally giving Faustus vague answers to trick him further. Can be played in many ways, open to interpretation. Can be either Male or Female. Voice of Good Angel- Heavenly voice that entreats Faustus not to pursue the dark arts. Need not be present during the shoot. Voice of Bad Angel- Dark voices which tempts him and pushes him further.
